William Andreas Wivel is a Danish born filmmaker, based in Copenhagen. He received his MA in Film Science from the University of Copenhagen with a thesis on feministic film aesthetics and later graduated from The National Film School of Denmark as Documentary Director. Wivel’s work has an essayistic approach to storytelling and combines strong visuals with in-depth character studies. His graduation film SAYŌNARA was an Ammodo Tiger Short Nominee at IFFR (2020) and selected for EMAF, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin and RIDM amongst others. His film VANITAS, a collaboration with visual artist Jules Fischer, was selected for CPH DOX (2023) and installed at the National Museum of Arts in Denmark. The Garden Caretaker, co-directed with Natalia Ciepiel, was screened at this years CPH:DOX (2025). Finally his latest film, EYE TROUBLE, was just completed, and hence is in this regard, his personal debut film.
